Koundouris brothers to tackle GT World Challenge Australia again in 2026

Tigani Motorsport’s James and Theo Koundouris will return to GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS in 2026 with the brothers once again entered in the Am Cup in their Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Veterans of Australian motorsport, the Koundouris brothers have more than four decades of racing experience and just shy of 600 races between them since making their official debuts back in 2003.

Since their first appearance at the Bathurst 24 Hour race in 2003, where they raced in different cars, the brothers have competed in a range of national categories such as GT and Production Cars since 2003.

While they spent their younger years racing against each other, they have been together in recent times tackling multiple Bathurst 12 Hour events and GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS Series.

Over the past two seasons in the GT World Challenge Australia Am Cup, they have enjoyed 13 podiums in 17 races, making them one of the key contenders for the class throughout 2024 and 2025.

The pair got their first win in the series last year at GT Festival The Bend to help them eventually finish the year in third place – the same place they ended up in the 2024 Sprint Cup.

Outside of the category, for James, he has had plenty of success since enjoying his first taste of silverware in the Australian Nations Cup Group Two class in his first year on board before winning seven races in the Trophy class the following year.

Having spent years running in Australian GT, the Porsche Carrera Cup and the Bathurst 12 Hour, James’ highlights include 12 Hour class victories in 2015, 2018 and 2022 alongside Theo, and multiple class wins in both 2010 and 2016 GT Am Cup seasons to secure top five finishes.

As for Theo, he finished the Australian Nations Cup Group Two Trophy Class in second place after scoring 13 podiums across the year and a further five podiums in 2006 as part of Australian GT.

Like James, he ran in a number of Australian GT, Porsche Carrera Cup and Bathurst 12 Hour events, while also running in Production Cars.
It took him until 2014 to get a real run of wins individually, with two victories setting up a sixth place overall in the Australian GT Trophy Class in 2014 before adding a further three wins the following year, which were some of his key highlights.

The pair will begin their 2026 GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS campaign at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit as part of the LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Phillip Island on 27-29 March.
